Tuesday June 10 : Austin homeowners spoke out against Texas’ broken property tax system at the Travis County Commissioner Special Voting Session. County Commissioners then voted on issuing a challenge petition on the overall valuation of commercial property in the county. They ultimately decided not to issue a challenge petition, but instead to study the issue of unequal commercial appraisals and work with others to look for remedies at the state legislature. Read more here.

Homeowners at the Austin City Council Vote on June 12, 2014

Friday June 13: Homeowners waited until 3:30 a.m. in the morning but the decision was worth the wait. Austin City Council unanimously voted to investigate commercial property valuations and to gear up to challenge them next year.  Read more here.

These recent advances in Austin are the direct result of the hundreds of homeowners who attended the property tax forum on May 20th and channeled their energy into advocating for property tax reform and calling on public officials to be part of the solution.

And the success so far is unprecedented.

This is the first time that homeowners, community leaders, and public officials in Austin are uniting to advocate for reform of our broken commercial property tax system.
